The foundation is my favorite. I absolutly love it. I love the fact that I finally found something to match my skin tone. It glides on smoothly and it doesn’t take much for a smooth look. The SADE comes in a stick form and erases all my flaws.
For Challenge 5 I was given the task of creating a How to Guide for Creating Hair Coils.
To achieve the Coils I had to roll my hair on flex rods. This was the first time I ever used rollers of any kind since going Natural. I also have never worn my hair in Coils. The process of Coiling my hair was new to me. I learned a lot about my hair texture through out the process. For example, a little product goes a long way with my hair. Too much product causes my hair to become too soft to hold a curl and/or the product will flake in my hair. **SIGH**
During my photo shoot, I had a turkey in the oven and was in the midst of cleaning the house for my Thanksgiving Dinner guests. I was multi-tasking to the fullest!! There was no way I was going to be able to take pictures after filling my belly with turkey, sides, and sweet potato pie… :0)
This challenge is all about creating new natural hair styles. Please take a look at our pictures and read our How to Guides AND don’t forget to vote and comment on our pictures/articles.
Have a great week,
I picked Timolin as my favorite for this challenge. Nina and Denitrika came in close!
The simply colored backgrounds and your choice of clothing color (black) really help bring focus to your beautiful skin tone and make up application. Let me say that you have the smoky and sultry stare down pat! But I would really love to see some jubilant expressions as well to fully get the full range of the makeups effects. I also liked your choice in hairstyle as it gave off both a flirty and sophisticated feel.
I enjoyed how you paired the earrings with different accessories, giving you a different look each time. I think the fro was a good choice in hairstyle because it still allows a lot of focus on the earrings while complimenting them as well. Great job!
You have a smile that is verging on adorable! The makeup looked flawless on you. Your shoot had a carefree, young, and light feeling. I do think that a few of the shots had lighting that was a bit too bright and did not fully reveal the coloring. Overall, though, loved it!!
Your pictures had a fresh faced feel for a wonderful everyday look. I liked the choice of clothing and the scarf. Even though I do enjoy the everyday look, I do feel that you’ve could’ve shaken things up a bit more with a bit more color in some shots or perhaps a few action shots.
Again, very fresh feeling to these photos. I liked the outside lighting and your hair framing the earrings.
I am digging the dramatic and bold feel to your photos! The poses ranged from sexy to thoughtful, just loved it. I also loved how your makeup changed based on your poses and the feel of each photo.
I didn’t feel like I got the full effect of the earrings you were showing off. I still felt like your photos were great shots of you but I don’t feel the focus was on the jewelry.
Your photos were absolutely stunning. Your makeup and hair were just great. There were some fantastic full face shots in there as well. Your look was class, simple, and effortless! Loved it!
Same here! I especially loved the different hairstyles you paired with the earrings. The first photo of you in black and white and the earrings in color particularly stood out.
These shots were very soft and feminine. I liked your gentle expression but would have liked to see more variety in both your face and poses.
Again, very soft and feminine shots. However, I think you would have benefited from closer shots to showcase the jewelry more.
These shots were all gorgeous! Your updo really helps to accentuate your facial features and the makeup. Your poses have the feel of a woman getting ready to go out on the town for a night of fun! I loved it all.
Because the item you were showcasing has such a unique feel and color, I think it’s imperative that your clothing compliment that. And it did! Again, I love the updo here too. I also liked how you were having fun with the jewelry not just wearing it.
I liked the shots but the photos were too bright (or maybe the lighting was too bright?) so I didn’t feel like I got an accurate effect of the makeup. I feel like you could’ve done more here to attract attention as far as your posing goes. I loved the shot where you were looking directly into the camera with a beautiful smile.
Although I think both Natasha and Jalita captured this challenge with their photos, my choice winner for Challenge 1 is Carlie M! Although her photos were not as creative, I think she really captured the essence of what it really means to go and stay natural when she said “The only difference is I now love my hair. It would appear that my love and self confidence are what people are reacting to and mirroring. If you walk around ashamed of your hair, people will mirror your self-doubt. If you wear it proud and love it, they will shower you with love and positive reaction. The main ingredient is YOU.” And she has NO chemicals in her hair, ie relaxer, color, etc. I often get asked as a professional natural hair care stylist;
My picks for this week were ReShonda and Chassity. My pick for elimination was Justyce.
Chassity- All of your shots were beautiful. Loved the hair, makeup, clothes.
Reshonda- There wasn’t a shot that I didn’t love. I loved the vibrant colors you wore in both clothing and make up. Great job! I wish you’d been a little more detailed with your instructions (for example, how many twists did you put in?)
Carlie- I love how you always seem to throw something unique into the mix. The picture where you were picking the products off the tree was great. However, I so wish you would’ve picked a flower that was visible in your hair.
Jalita- I like the colors you chose and I like the creative style, but I couldn’t see it as well as I liked. I also don’t feel that your instructions were very clear.
Kala – Very chic style and lovely makeup and color choices. The instructions had me lost, however.
Natasha-I liked the feel of your photos, your hairstyle, instructions, and color choices. I do think there was too many bushes/plants in your backgrounds. They overpowered you.
Nefertiti- Your style was definitely among the most creative and your instructions very detailed. You were also good about showing different angles of the style. I do think you also had too many bushes/plants in the background. It was hard for me to focus on you. But your pictures gave me an earthy, natural feel.
Justyce- The style you showcased was ok, but I didn’t like really the accessories you chose. I don’t think the lei complimented the style very well at all.
Desyray- You’re a beautiful woman and your locs looked lovely but I don’t think this camera/lighting really reflected that fully. I also think that you might’ve gotten a little more creative with your styling. Curly locs are a nice style but I would’ve loved to see you go a step further with them.
It is so true, many brides opt for a straight look, and it’s for various reasons. It could be because of pressure from mom, the husband may prefer it, or even, the bride may not know that there are tons of beautiful natural styles for their big day. I love how this challenge demonstrates styles that are just as elegant as the ones we’re used to seeing down the aisle year after year. Kudos to all of the contestants!
