Going Natural BookBrooklyn, NY (July 6, 2011) -- Lushena Books has announced that Going-Natural: How to Fall in Love with Nappy Hair has become the best-selling book in the US on hair care.

According to the leading distributor of African-American publications, the book written by Mireille Liong-A-Kong has become increasingly popular among Black women since it was picked up by stores nationwide last year. Going Natural is a guide that supports women on their journey to transition from taking care of chemically straightened hair to grooming and growing natural hair.

The bestselling writer relates, "Like so many nappy-haired girls, I started to relax my hair when I was 14...I was caught in a vicious cycle of braiding my hair, growing lovely healthy naps, then relaxing again only to have my kinks break down to my scalp, again." Her moment of truth came soon after she noticed a nearly bald spot in the middle of her permed and damaged strands. "I desperately wanted my healthy hair back, nappy and all. I was determined not to become depended on weaves to camouflage bald spots".

Born in Suriname, Liong-A-Kong's title "Kroeshaar" was published in 2003. Written in Dutch while she was living in Amsterdam, the first book on African Hair was sold out within two months of its release. Inspired by this initial success, the author soon followed up with an English version, which now tops the list for the hair care category. In the book, she lists the best ways to go natural, the reasons behind hair breakage, the basics of natural hair styling, and the many ways to grow and groom natural hair. Most importantly, she shares her own experience, in order to inspire and help the many other women dealing with similar hair issues.

Liong-A-Kong is also the Founder and Owner of Going-Natural.com. Launched together with the highly popular book, the website-turned-interactive magazine has a social networking feature, blog, and offers products to support natural hair care. The site gives the fans of the book and other readers all the latest resources on caring for African hair, from up-to-date hairstyles and products to expert tips and trends.

Both the publication - which is widely popular on Amazon.com, as well - and website have been well-received by numerous African-American women. Many laud the Twist Out Hairstyle of Liong-A-Kong, wherein strands are first twisted then taken out to a create full head of crinkles. In fact, readers of the Going Natural book have christened it the "hair bible" and the "the best little book on natural hair care".
