African hair is the only hair type where you can go from one extreme style to another without having to use scissors.

This is a perfect style for naturals, transitioners and even non-naturals. It took me a minute to figure out how to do coils because you need to know a few tricks but if you know how to put rollers, it should be a breeze to achieve this look.

When my publisher didn't like the afro shoot, I decided to hire a photographer to shoot me with a twist out. Next to an afro, this was the only style I kind of knew how to do. I could never predict what my twists would look like and I wasn't sure how long a twist out would hold but I decided to take a chance.

The one thing I knew for sure about my book is that I wanted natural hairstyles on the cover. This was very important to me because I felt that besides the hair care information my book needed to make a case. To proof that natural hair was not difficult as it was perceived and that representative styling was possible.

My Styles

I have been so consumed with keeping the website up and running and projects like The Pursuit of Nappiness and America's Next Natural Model going, that I never really had time to realize how many different styles I have done over the years. Your increased interest, questions and wonderful  compliments not only made me see that I have worn quite a bit of styles, they also encouraged me to start putting up all the styles I have had since I started this journey.
