I definitely believe that stress can cause this condition. I first noticed mind after the loss of my mother August of last year. My stress level was extremely high during the entire time she was ill.

I have this same problem and it's in the back of my head also. I thought sleeping on my sides would help, because I thought it might be the friction and heat from my head and pillow hence this damage only appearing on my hair in the back. I've gotten a good cut since then but still noticing the damage. I never really thought to link it with stress but past year has been nearly life altering so looking forward to 2010!

Hello, I have this same issue at times. Over handling the hair is probably the cause, if you tend to play and touch your hair and pull on it, this will cause splits. Along with not being consistent with the hair, and inadequate moisture. Just because the products you use are name brand or typical in the natural hair community, doesn't make them the best fit for your hair. Carol's Daughter and Miss Jessie's does not do anything spectacular for my hair. It doesn't tend to hold on to moisture from these products, so i imagine there are other people out there experiencing the same issues with "natural hair" products. If you have 4a/b hair try using shea butter, and some type of oil on top to seal in moisture. Shea will penetrate the hair shaft versus just laying on the outside. I have found that this practice every other day keeps my hair soft, and thoroughly moisturized. versus putting on several name brand products daily, just to have dry hair at the end of the day
